MOONPHASE ONE
A timepiece that combines craftsmanship with the universe.
A timepiece that combines craftsmanship with the universe.
The Mondphase One is an extraordinary creation that embodies Felipe Pikullik’s passion for astronomy and dedication to traditional watchmaking. At the heart of this masterpiece lies a handcrafted in-house 3D moon phase complication, representing a significant milestone in Felipe’s journey as an independent watchmaker.
After two years of meticulous development and experimentation, the Mondphase One was brought to life through the use of time-honored techniques and manually operated tools. Every component of the moon phase, from its intricate gears to the spherical moon itself, reflects Felipe’s commitment to artisanal excellence. The moon, inspired by the Southern Hemisphere, features a two-tone rhodium finish that beautifully mirrors its celestial counterpart.
Recognized for its exceptional design and technical ingenuity, the Mondphase One was selected in 2023 as a nominee for the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in the Calendar and Astronomy category—an award regarded as one of the highest honors in the watchmaking world. Often referred to as the “Oscars of Watchmaking,” the GPHG celebrates innovation, craftsmanship, and excellence in horology.
More than just a timepiece, the Mondphase One is a poetic expression of the cosmos, a harmonious blend of technical mastery and timeless elegance, embodying Felipe Pikullik’s vision of uniting innovation and tradition.
The dial of the Mondphase One is crafted from frosted brass and treated with black rhodium plating, resulting in a refined matte surface that exudes elegance and sophistication. This understated finish draws attention to the intricate moon phase complication and the partially exposed gold-plated gearing, framed by meticulously hand-beveled edges that highlight the artisanal craftsmanship behind this timepiece. The beveled edges, carefully polished, create a dynamic interplay of light, adding depth and dimension to the design.
At 9 o’clock, the spherical moon phase takes center stage, featuring a two-tone rhodium finish with a dark and bright side to represent the lunar phases. Inspired by Felipe Pikullik’s Brazilian heritage, the moon is depicted from the perspective of the Southern Hemisphere, adding a distinctive and personal touch to the watch. The beveled framing around the moon phase further enhances its prominence, making it the star of the dial.
Adding to its sophistication, the hands feature a unique design with half frosted and half polished black rhodium plating, creating a subtle contrast that elevates the overall aesthetic. The polished stainless steel chapter ring provides a sleek border to the textured surface, offering customizable numeral options such as Eastern Arabic, Roman, or Breguet styles. The combination of these details creates a harmonious blend of artistry and functionality, making the Mondphase One a true masterpiece.
The movement of the Mondphase One is a testament to Felipe Pikullik’s dedication to traditional craftsmanship and technical ingenuity. Designed to accommodate the intricate 3D moon phase complication, the base movement undergoes extensive modifications by hand, including precise adjustments to the main plate. This meticulous process demands exceptional precision, as even the slightest misstep could impact the seamless functionality of the timepiece.
The movement showcases advanced beveling techniques, with flawlessly crafted interior angles that highlight the complexity of the design. A standout feature is the intermediate beveling, applied within a single bridge to create the illusion of two distinct components. These details elevate the movement, demonstrating an unparalleled level of artistry and expertise.
Finished with sandblasted black rhodium-plated bridges, the movement achieves a sophisticated matte appearance that contrasts beautifully with the mirror-polished beveling. The rose gold-plated balance cock, adorned with intricate hand engraving, adds a touch of elegance and craftsmanship, standing out as a centerpiece of the design. Together, these elements make the Mondphase One movement not only a mechanical marvel but also a visual masterpiece that embodies the fusion of functionality and artistry.
